Type Locality and Naming

The type section is at Longtouzhai in Qujiang County, northern Guangdong. The Longtouzhai Fm is derived from the Longtouzhai series proposed by Nan Yi (1959), and was published by Central-South Compiling Group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale (1974).

Synonym: (龙头寨群)


Lithology and Thickness

The Longtouzhai Fm is composed of a Lower part of 50-80 m thick gray crystalline limestone, and an Upper part of 240 m of light gray, grayish green and purple sandstone and thin-bedded sandy shale.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The contacts between the Longtouzhai Fm and the underlying strata are not known due to the poorly preserved and isolated outcrops (Lai et al., 1982).

Upper contact

The contacts between the Longtouzhai Fm and the overlying strata are not known due to the poorly preserved and isolated outcrops (Lai et al., 1982).

Regional extent

It is mainly exposed in northern Guangdong.
